To save Grant High trees!
The Issue
"Noticed of the 48 trees proposed for removal was recently announced,...This design has been in the works for 2 years, so why are we just now being told of the tree removals, and that there is nothing we can do to change that.
Trees are one of the most efficient and cost effective sustainability tools within urban ecosystem in fighting climate change, heat island, poor air and water quality and balancing environmental inequity.
Mature trees on campus hold benefits that complement LAUSD's stated sustainability goals...
Not only are trees an environmental resource:
- Trees shield children from ultra-violet rays
- Children with ADHD show fewer symptoms when they have access to nature. Exposure to trees and nature aids concentration by reducing mental fatigue.
- Trees reduce violence. Trees and landscaping help reduce the level of fear.
- Trees and unity. Trees as landmarks can give school a new identity and encourage campus pride."
