Reinstate/Reform the Clean Power Plan

Every year, 7 million people worldwide die premature deaths from particle exposure, that 1 out of every 9 deaths in the world. The Clean Power Plan(CPP) proposed in June 2014 was meant to combat these air pollution related deaths by reducing our use and dependence on the dirty fuel source of coal. The end goal was to reduce our emissions 32% below 2005 levels by 2030 and many places were on track for this progress. The formal process meant to repeal this plan was put into action October 10th 2017.

The CPP was meant to reduce pollutants that create smog and soot and over all lessen the rate of climate change. But if neither of those sound like good enough reasons you should know, 9 out of 10 people worldwide breathe polluted air and 43% of all lung disease/cancer related deaths are attributed to air pollution. Air pollution is an invisible killer cutting years off of people's lives and killing our children yet no one talks about it and we just signed away the plan to try to lessen these deaths.

I propose a new Clean Power Plan be made or the old one reinstated to protect the lives of all, but especially our young who are most affected by this. As well as spending more time outside, children’s lungs are even more vulnerable when it comes to air pollution since their lungs are still developing and results may be even more devastating than those in adults. In children air pollution can lead to asthma, atopy, and premature deaths.

Air pollution plagues the world not just third world countries and most people don't even know the pollution levels they are living in or the effect this will have on their and their children's life and health. A new replacement for the CPP needs to be put in place to secure the health and safety of our citizens. We can not go on ignoring this invisible killer that takes 7 million lives each year. There needs to be protection for the American people and the people of the world so that they can know the air they breathe will not be what is secretly killing them.

Just because your location may be low in air pollution, does not mean you are not in danger of these pollutants. A replacement for the CPP needs to be put in place to ensure the protection of our air. No longer can we ignore this major issue, legislation must pass more protection for the American public, leading our nation, and the world, in a better direction.
