Dear supporters
This is an amendment to my update yesterday announcing the release of the men from the Australian funded Bomana prison in PNG.
In the update I referred to the number of refugees remaining in PNG as 500. This was a mistake. The number is around 200+. There are approximately 500 refugees who remain trapped offshore which includes PNG and Nauru. I apologise for this slip.
Please also note that this number does not include the hundreds of refugees now held in our immigration prisons here in Australia, both in purpose built detention facilities and in hotels (which have been converted to locked prisons).
Nor does it include those who have been held in community detention for many years without work, travel or study rights.
Thank you once again for your support.
I apologise again for the mistake. I have resent an amended version of the update.
In solidarity
Michele
