Friends, Shadow Immigration Minister Kristina Keneally visited Priya, Nades and their QLD-born girls in WA yesterday.
“If the Morrison Government doesn’t listen to Barnaby Joyce (or any of its other MPs who agree) and let this family go #HometoBilo - an Albanese Labor Government will,” Senator Keneally said.
Senator Keneally first visited our Biloela family on Christmas Island a year ago, just weeks before Tharni had to be medically evacuated to a Perth hospital.
Yesterday, she spent two hours catching up with Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni at the “community detention” house where Minister Hawke has ordered four year old Tharni to stay.
Last year, Minister Hawke gave “bridging visas” to every member of the family except Tharni. That’s how Mr Morrison’s Ministers are stopping this family coming safely home to Biloela - and it’s why I’m terrified he plans to force them to danger after the election.
In the four years since they were taken from their Biloela, people of so many different beliefs and backgrounds have spoken out to bring them #HometoBilo.
Deputy PM Barnaby Joyce and five other government MPs. Conservative broadcaster Alan Jones. Former Foreign Minister Julie Bishop. Even Bob Katter, who said: “I believe this Biloela family should come here. No question about it.”
Now, a growing number of independent candidates, including Allegra Spender (Wentworth), Dr Monique Ryan (Kooyong), Zoe Daniel (Goldstein) and Kylea Tink (North Sydney) have joined the call to bring Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni safely home to Biloela.
For everything you’re to help bring Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni home to Biloela - thank you.
With hope
Angela
PS If you are in or around Biloela or Banana Shire, I would love you to join us for the opening of The Long Way Home exhibition this Friday - or keep an eye on the #HometoBilo Facebook page to join in from afar!
