Friends, this is urgent. Tomorrow, Peter Dutton will try to change the law so he can take mobile phones away from people like Priya and her family, who have come to Australia seeking peace and safety. Only our Senators have the power to stop him.

Please, can you write a polite, respectful e-mail to your Senators now and ask them to say ‘no’ to Mr Dutton’s attempt to take mobile phones away from people like Priya?

Ever since he had Priya, Nades and the girls snatched from their Biloela home at dawn, Mr Dutton has tried to hide the fact that he has detained these QLD-born kids. He keeps saying: “We don't have any children in detention.”

But a few months before our family were taken from Biloela, the courts ruled that it was illegal to take mobile phones from people in immigration detention. That’s why Priya could use her phone to contact her Biloela friends and show the world what Mr Dutton was doing to her family.

Now, Mr Dutton is trying to change our laws to take phones away from Priya and others like her. But our Senators can stop this.

That’s why I’m asking you to write a polite e-mail to your Senators now, in your own words.

When Mr Dutton tried to force our beautiful family from Australia to danger one year ago, it was a mobile phone that made it possible for Priya and Nades to contact their legal representatives.

When he had guards separate Kopika and Tharunicaa from their Mum and drag her onto an unmarked charter plane, it was a mobile phone that allowed Australians to see what Mr Dutton was doing to this beautiful family in our name.

And it’s a mobile phone that allows Kopika and Tharnicaa to stay connected to Biloela, where they belong - even as Mr Dutton holds them in Christmas Island, 5,000km from their home.

That’s why Mr Dutton is trying to take phones away from people in immigration detention. And that’s why our Senators must stop him from changing our laws tomorrow.

Please, can you tap through to our action page and send a polite e-mail to your Senators now?

Remember - your e-mail will be sent to all of your Senators, including many who are sympathetic to our family. That’s why it’s so important to be polite and respectful, just like Kopika in this lovely video. Like so many children raised by parents who are migrants, she is already fluent in two languages!

With hope,

Angela
