Friends, we have learned that at least one Australian immigration detention centre guard has become infected with COVID-19 (coronavirus).

Can you sign Human Rights for All's petition calling for the release of people in immigration detention during the coronavirus outbreak?

I hope this guard recovers quickly. I also hope the government does the right and responsible thing and allows the people in detention to return to their family homes and communities in Australia.

Detention centres have already experienced periods of no or limited access to soap, toilet paper, and even cough syrup. In an already difficult situation, this creates a situation which endangers the health of those detained and also the workers in these centres.

There is a simple solution to this emerging and potentially life-threatening situation: send these people back to their homes in Australia. Those without immediate families have advocates in the community who will support them. Something we know all too well, as we keep fighting to bring Priya and her family home to Bilo.

Can you get behind Human Rights for All's campaign, by signing their petition?

Finally, I hope you are all safe and well, and are able to follow the health guidelines as we all deal with the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

With hope,
Angela
