On Sunday, Mr Dutton told a lie on the ABC’s Insiders program: “I’ve got all of the children out of detention here in Australia.”

Kopika is only four, but she knows she should be in Biloela, QLD with her Mum, Dad and little sister Tharunicaa - not stuck in the Melbourne detention centre where Mr Dutton has locked her family up for 16 months.

Today, please DON’T e-mail Mr Dutton. Right now, the thing this beautiful family needs more than anything is for our local MPs to understand that Australians have seen through Mr Dutton’s lie.

Please, will you pick up the phone and make a polite call to your local MP?

When Tharunicaa turned two last week, visitors were allowed to bring her a plain little chocolate cake. Birthday candles are banned in detention, so they stuck a couple of Twix bars in the cake instead.

But on Sunday, another group of visitors tried to hold a little celebration with a strawberry cheesecake decorated with the words “Happy Birthday Tharunicaa”. Tharunicaa’s Dad had even completed the official paperwork required to receive the cake.

Suddenly, birthday cakes were banned.

I know. It doesn’t make sense.

But Mr Dutton’s blatant lie on Insiders does make a cruel sort of sense. Mr Dutton thinks that you have forgotten about Kopika and Tharunicaa.

He thinks that the most you’ll do after signing this petition is send an e-mail or two - and then give up.

Please - can you take two minutes to call your local MP’s office and show that our love for this family is more powerful than Mr Dutton’s lie?

Some people think there’s no point calling their MP because they won’t listen or don’t care.

But nothing could be further from the truth. It’s your opinion that matters - not theirs.

If your local MP belongs to the current government, it is vitally important that you pick up the phone and speak up for Priya, Nades and the girls.

If your MP is part of the opposition, please tell them you want Shadow Home Affairs Minister Kristina Keneally to keep speaking out for this beautiful family.

I know many of you have sent e-mail after e-mail. I know that thousands of you have called the Prime Ministers office and Immigration Minister David Coleman.

I wish I could tell you how many signatures, e-mails, phone calls and marches it will take get Priya, Nades and the girls home to Biloela, but the truth is no-one knows. But I do know that every action you take gives hope and courage to this beautiful family.
