Angela FredericksBILOELA, Australia
May 15, 2019

Last night we had a tremendous victory. Bill Shorten promised on national television to re-examine our family’s case on Monday if elected.

But we can't afford to gamble this family's future on an election. We need bipartisan support. And we need to show Mr Shorten we will hold him to his promise. That's why today, I'm asking you to please call your MP.

Let them know that tomorrow (Friday) a convoy is coming down from Biloela, straight to David Coleman’s Sydney office, to deliver this petition. We’ll be joined by former Socceroos captain and human rights defender, Craig Foster. We want the Immigration Minister to go one better than Bill and intervene before the election.

If your MP is part of Mr Shorten’s opposition, please say thank you and let them know you will be watching to see how quickly a Shorten government can review this family’s case. If they are of Mr Coleman’s government colleagues, ask them if Mr Coleman will go one better than Mr Shorten and get this family home to Biloela before Saturday.

I’ve welcomed Mr Shorten’s promise. But Tharunicaa needs treatment now. Kopika needs freedom now. We simply cannot afford to gamble on the result of an election.

That’s why this Friday, I am bringing Biloela to David Coleman’s doorstep. I’m going to fly to Sydney to deliver our 190,000 strong petition. And I’m bringing Priya’s dear friend Marie and Tharunicaa’s Australian “Grandmother” Margot with me.

Mr Shorten’s promise shows that the politicians are feeling the pressure. And it is all due to the countless phone calls and emails our representatives are receiving.

Please - can you pick up the phone today?

With hope,

Angela.
