Public pressure works. Ten days ago, Immigration Minister David Coleman intervened to stop the deportation of Kinley, a young Bhutanese man with a hearing impairment.

Last week, he quietly released a Tamil women and her seven year old son from the same detention centre that Priya and her family are trapped in.

But with Mr Dutton doubling down, we need to show our MPs that forcing this family from Australia will lose the votes they are so desperate to win.

And we can’t let them get away with leaving our friends to rot in detention while a High Court appeal drags out over months - or years.
