As you may be aware, Facebook live-streamed the Christchurch shootings. As 50 people were killed (and many more injured), people around the world were able to watch it live (liking and commenting on it).

In recent days, the NZ government and Australian ISP's have taken action, banning conservative/libertarian/free-speech websites from being accessible. These sites include Zero Hedge, 4chan, 8chan, Voat and Liveleak. I frequently use ZeroHedge and have at no time seen morally questionable content on their platform (they mostly cover finance). 

The primary means by which the shooter was able to make himself known was Facebook. Why has this site not been blocked? The ability to live-stream still exists, and the idea has now no doubt been placed in psychopaths minds to do similar.  

It is well known that Facebook contributes towards a great deal of today's social problems and may have indeed helped warp the mind of the Christchurch shooter. Now the platform enables mass murderers to promote their cause. 

If sites that had little/nothing to do with the tragedy are blocked, it makes sense to block the main platform used. Again, it's only a matter of time before another copycat psychopath streams their killing spree on Facebook!

With all of Facebook's data scandals and an utter lack of regulation, if as a country we are going to be stamping down on speech, we might as well start with the elephant in the room.
