Anne McCulloch started this petition to Scotland's 1st Minister

Banning fireworks being sold to the general public would stop cruelty and abuse they cause to animals, particularly pets. It would also greatly reduce the volume of accidental injuries seen at this time of year. By limiting access to fireworks to licensed pyrotechnics only, they would then only be available for firework displays and limit the time we hear them being used, to a few days around Guy Fawkes night, rather than them being set off from early October, through until after New Year's day. The effects that fireworks cause to animals is extreme, and shouldn't be easily dismissed.  Ranging from constant barking, and trembling for hours, hyperventilating, incontinence in pets who are house trained, severe stress, which can cause lasting mental and physical problems. Problems with hearing, self injuries when they are trying to get away from the noise. There would also, be the obvious knock on effect of reducing the number accidental injuries, to children and adults, many severe, disfiguring burns, caused by fireworks, when they are used without proper due care & attention, resulting in taking strain off our Firefighters and Accident & Emergency departments at a busy time of year. Please  make it illegal to sell fireworks to the public, if people want to see them, let them go to an organised display, cheaper and safer!
