We Are the Change!
Sep 23, 2016 — Thanks to all of you for continuing to spread the word about our mission to reinstate a fair and legal admission process at LaGuardia High School. Our petition has nearly 10,500 signatures - and counting!
We have sent letters requesting meetings with all four decision makers on the petition: Mayor Bill DiBlasio, Chancellor Carmen Farina, Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, and Superintendent Fred Walsh. The great news is that our voices have been heard!
We received a response from Superintendent Walsh who said that our case was referred to the DOE's Office of Equal Opportunity. And, just today, we were informed that our case will be handled by the Office of Special Investigations.
Of course time is of the essence. The admission process for 2017 begins in October and we're working hard to make sure that all students are considered primarily on their talent.
Speaking of which, above are two Admission Evaluation Forms: one from 2011 and one from 2015. Take a look at the academic requirements. In 2011 candidates received 3 out of 5 points for what the DOE considers satisfactory performance (a grade of 73-78). In 2015, 0 points were awarded for the same performance. This violates the Hecht-Calandra Law and undermines will the core mission of the Fame school.
How can you help? Continue to share the petition and promote our cause. Thanks for helping us save LaGuardia. #BringFameBack!
