Thank you Tim for reaching out to us and agreeing to meet to discuss our request.
We will demonstrate to you why all Victorian State Government prep children need access to decodable books and all prep teachers need accompanying teacher training.

REMINDER!!
We are not requesting a phonics-only approach to early reading instruction. We are requesting decodable books to be available for beginning readers in all prep classes.
And, we are acknowledging that there are children who need more decoding practice than other children do.
Access to decodable books is vital for these children so that they can practise their decoding skills instead of being left to fail…
Here’s 3 examples of educational leaders using evidence-based reading instruction -
Jocelyn Seamer, Assistant Principal, Tennant Creek Primary School
“Evidence based practice involves explicitly teaching phonics in a systematic and cumulative way, providing decodable texts that align with the phonics knowledge and phonemic skills of the child, learning to read and spell at the same time, providing a literature rich environment to build language and comprehension and not teaching high frequency words as whole units.”
Steven Capp, Principal, Bentleigh West Primary School
