You may recall that the last update was positive in that Leeds City Council had been told to think again by a cross party committee of Cllr’s.
Last Wednesday, the Council’s Executive Board decided to move ahead regardless.
I was the only member of the board who voted against the proposals. None of the other 9 members asked a single question between them.
No impact assessments have been undertaken and they haven’t even considered what effect this decision will have on other areas of the Council’s budget. I believe that they may have acted unlawfully.
The fight to stop this is far from over and I will soon need your help once again.
The next stage in the process will be a statutory consultation which will likely start in January at some point and will take between 6 and 12 months to complete. The Council is legally obliged to respond individually to each person that submits comments. More than 6000 of us made our views known last time so let’s beat that this time. There is case law of the Supreme Court overturning Council decisions when they have ignored consultation responses.
I retain my belief that parking charges would have a devastating impact on our Town. We will keep fighting on to stop this.
