Congratulations! Your signature contributes to the message that mining is incompatible in the West Cape Howe National Park area. Thank you
Now we need some action from our politicians. Rebecca Stephens MLA, Member for Albany, needs to know that the public does not support mining in areas that have high biodiversity, established agriculture, and tourism.
Please contact Ms. Rebecca Stephens MLA, Member for Albany.
Here are some actions in order of impact:
- Walk into her office at 348 Middleton Loop, Albany, WA 6330
- Write a letter, as it may be seen by more than one staff member.
- Make a phone call (08) 9841 8799
- Write an email rebecca.stephens@mp.gov.au
In your communication mention that the petition has more than 15,500 signatures and that the exploration company, Mac Sand Pty Ltd, has a significant percentage of shares held by investors in Hong Kong and the British Virgin Islands, which raises concerns about the potential for mining profits to be channelled overseas without benefiting Australians.
You can also let her know that Mining activities in this region would pose a range of risks, including dieback spread, biosecurity risks, impacts on endangered species such as the Western Ringtail Possum, acid sulfate soil disturbance, water and air pollution, and noise pollution. These threats would have severe consequences on public health, local businesses, and the natural environment.
Again, thank you for taking the time to avoid mining in this area.
