Dear resident,
My name is Councillor Darren Maltby, serving Bestwood St Albans ward in the Borough of Gedling.
I started this petition because of the Governments Local Government Reorganisation giving the ‘BANKRUPT’ Nottingham City Council the opportunity to request that they want Gedling Borough to be included in their boundary.
Whilst Council Leaders from 9 Boroughs/Districts, along with the City and County Council discuss their preferred options, I wanted to give you ‘the voter’ a voice to say ‘NO’!!! We do not want to become an asset to Nottingham City Council, for them to pay off their debts, get a poorer service, whilst paying even more Council Tax. No, we do not want to pay for the mismanagement of their finances or misappropriation of housing funds.
At a recent meeting there were 3 core options agreed, which 1 will have to be selected.
1. A new unitary authority combining Nottingham, Broxtowe, and Gedling, with a second new unitary authority for the rest of Nottinghamshire.
2. A new unitary authority combining Nottingham, Broxtowe, and Rushcliffe, with a second new unitary authority for the rest of Nottinghamshire.
3. Nottingham city remains a unitary authority, with a new single unitary authority for the rest of Nottinghamshire.
Gedling Borough Council will soon have a meeting where Councillors will discuss the 3 options and probably look to choose one.
This is why it’s important we get more people to share and sign this petition, as I will be presenting this at that meeting, so all councillors can see the views of Gedling’s residents.
I am also presenting the chance for all Gedling Borough Councillors and our MP Michael Payne to sign this petition and be on your side to protect Gedling Borough. Once I get their reply, I will update you.
kindest regards
Councillor Darren Maltby
