Car Accident Survivors and Supporters for Fair Auto Insurance in BC
May 6, 2018
Protesters showed up in big numbers in front of NDP MLA Jinny Sims' riding office in Surrey, BC on May 5, 2018 to oppose Bill 20, the NDP ICBC bill which would define "mental illness", "chronic pain" and "psychiatric or psychological illness" as "minor injuries".
Bill 20 also abolishes the rights of accident victims to claim against bad drivers for health care costs that deviate from the "ICBC cookbook" of "prescribed treatment". In other words, politicians are playing doctor to the detriment of the public.
Despite this mounting opposition in BC, the NDP plans to force Bill 20 through this week by getting the Green Party to vote for this shameful stigmatization of mental illness as "minor injuries". This despite BC Psychologists telling the NDP to back off.
Please tell the Green Party to stop doing the NDP's dirty work for them and back off from supporting Bill 20. Tell the Green Party that depression, PTSD, anxiety and other mental illnesses are not "minor" injuries as politicians would like us to believe.
If the Green Party does vote for this unseemly legislation, we pledge to constantly remind British Columbians how the Greens voted on Bill 20 as the September referendum on voting methods approaches.
