Thanks to YOU, 43 countries now say NO to deep-sea mining!

Change doesn't happen over night. Winning campaigns, especially international ones, require us to be in it for the long haul. When I started working to stop deep-sea mining over six years ago, no single country spoke out against this reckless industry. 

Now 43 countries reject the rush to open our shared ocean to destructive mining. Most recently, the first three African nations - Malawi, Kenya and Madagascar -  spoke out about the dangers of deep-sea mining. 

Yet, the would-be miners keep pushing the international community to greenlight deep-sea mining. For years now we have been able to push back by exerting global pressure on decision makers. We can't stop now!

This July, governments will continue debating the future of deep-sea mining at the International Seabed Authority (ISA) in Kingston, Jamaica. Decision makers will be there, the industry will be there and we need to be there too!

As an official observer to the ISA, The Ocean and Us brings the voice of the deep sea into the room, challenging false narratives, holding decision-makers accountable, and reminding governments that the deep sea is part of our shared heritage, not the next frontier for extraction.
