A big win for the ocean and the growing resistance to stop deep-sea mining from starting!

The European Parliament voted today on a resolution calling in to question Norway’s decision to open the Arctic to deep-sea mining. The result was an overwhelming vote in favour of the resolution.

The people of the European Union have spoken! This is a clear and resounding message to Norway that deep-sea mining is not welcome in the Arctic or indeed anywhere, including on the High Seas. Norway must pay attention to this result and live up to its claim of being a champion of the ocean.

This result reinforces once again that there is no social license to mine the ocean. Deep-sea mining will irreversibly destroy ancient habitat, have unknown consequences to the systems in the ocean that sustain us, and will disturb locked-away carbon.

But we can't stop here. There is much more work ahead to stop the next climate disaster from starting. You can:

- Keep sharing this petition!

Support our work to stop deep-sea mining. We cannot do this without you.

Thank you! - Farah Obaidullah, Founder The Ocean and Us
