I hope this email finds you well. I'm writing to ask for your help with something that could forever change one of New York's most beloved neighborhoods.
The City Council Land Use Committee is about to decide whether to give away our public streets to developers who want to build a 40-story tall, three-block wide casino between W12th and Stillwell Avenue in Coney Island. This massive development would bring 30,000 people every day, year-round to an area that's already struggling with infrastructure.
To put the size in perspective: 40 stories is equivalent to two Parachute Jumps stacked on top of each other!
This casino would:
Destroy Coney Island's historic character and charm
Create unbearable traffic gridlock on the peninsula
Overwhelm our schools, infrastructure, and emergency services
Transform our beloved People's Playground into a corporate gambling destination
