Update: Planning application now submitted – please share and write to your MP and councillors

Huge thank you to everyone who has signed and shared – we’ve now reached 400 signatures. That’s a clear signal of how strongly local people feel about this site and what kind of development Homerton actually needs.

The planning application for the proposed 22/23-storey co-living tower at 150 Homerton High Street has now been formally submitted to Hackney Council.

This is the moment when local voices matter most. Planning officers and the planning committee will be weighing up objections and support as they prepare their reports and recommendations.

What you can do now

1) Share this petition widely
- Send it to neighbours, local WhatsApp/Telegram groups, residents’ associations, and anyone who lives or works near Homerton High Street, Sedgwick Street, and Digby Road.
- Post it on local Facebook groups, Nextdoor, and Instagram stories, with a short note about why the height, density, and co-living focus are problematic for our area.

2) Write to your local MP and councillors
Ask them to:
- Note strong local opposition to a 22/23-storey, predominantly co-living tower in this location.
- Press Hackney Council and the GLA to ensure any approval reflects the existing 3–14 storey context, includes genuinely affordable and family-sized homes in the main block, and does not worsen congestion on Homerton High Street.
- Raise the issue in relevant council committees and with the Mayor’s office if needed.

3) Submit a formal planning objection to Hackney Council
On Hackney’s planning portal:
- Search by address (150 Homerton High Street) or by the application reference (2026/1436).
- Submit a clear, concise objection referencing:
  - Disproportionate height compared to the prevailing 3–14 storey context.
  - Over-reliance on private-rental co-living rather than mixed-tenure, family-sized homes.
  - Impacts on daylight, privacy, and outlook for nearby homes on Sedgwick Street, Digby Road, and surrounding streets.
  - Increased pressure on an already congested Homerton High Street (traffic, deliveries, taxis, parking demand).

Even short, personal messages count – especially from people who live on the directly affected streets.

Local reporting confirms that the scheme as submitted includes a 23-storey co-living tower with hundreds of en-suite rooms, plus a separate smaller block of social-rent flats. Hundreds of residents have already signed this petition because the height, density, and housing mix do not reflect Homerton’s character or needs.

Now that the application is in, organised local pressure can still shape what happens next – through formal objections, MP and councillor engagement, and public awareness.

I am writing as a resident of [your postcode / street] to express my strong concern about the recently submitted planning application for a 22/23-storey co-living tower at 150 Homerton High Street, Homerton, E5.

As reported locally, the scheme includes a high-rise co-living block with hundreds of en-suite rooms, alongside a separate smaller block of social-rent flats. While more housing is needed, this proposal is out of character with the prevailing 3–14 storey context and risks setting an unwanted precedent for further tall, high-density co-living towers along Homerton High Street and surrounding roads.

My key concerns are:

- Height and scale: A 22/23-storey tower would dominate the existing streetscape and significantly impact daylight, privacy and outlook for nearby homes on Sedgwick Street, Digby Road and adjacent blocks.
- Housing mix: The scheme is overwhelmingly private-rental co-living, with limited genuinely affordable and family-sized homes in the main block. This does not meet the long-term needs of local families and established residents.
- Infrastructure and congestion: Homerton High Street is already congested. Adding hundreds of new residents in a single site will increase pressure on traffic, deliveries, taxis, buses, and local services.

I respectfully ask you to:

1) Note the strength of local opposition to a tower of this height and housing mix in this location.
2) Press Hackney Council (and, where relevant, the GLA/Mayor’s office) to ensure that any decision properly reflects the existing character of the area, prioritises mixed-tenure and family-sized homes, and does not encourage further inappropriate high-rise co-living schemes.
3) Raise this issue in the appropriate council committees and planning forums, and make clear that constituents expect robust scrutiny of this application.
