Before I tell you about the small success we have received, I just wanted to update you quickly on our activities yesterday.
A group of us spent some time with outreach to parents, grandparents and other carers of children attending St Saviours CoE Junior School yesterday. It appears that concern is growing and many of those we spoke to were very receptive to our leaflets and conversation. I think the realisation of the mast's close proximity to the school, size and potential to cause harm to the children, staff and neighbours is hitting home.
Now for the small (well potentially huge) success...
Yesterday, we became aware of a letter from Westgate Town Council (WTC) to Thanet District Council (TDC - the local planning authority), which I have included with this update as an attachment.
WTC has informed TDC that as a result of a failure by the applicant (MBNL) to provide 'full and accurate disclosure,' WTC provided the incorrect response of 'No Comment' to TDC after discussing the planning application at the town council planning meeting in Feb 2021.
Had 'full and accurate disclosure' been made to WTC at the correct time, they would have provided a response of 'total Objection' to the plans to install the mast on the school playing fields.
As TDC included the 'No Comment' response from WTC in their delegated report, it may very well have been influential in their decision to grant permission to MBNL. Therefore, if WTC had provided a response of a total Objection, which it holds now, TDC may not have granted permission.
This has been raised with MBNL, TDC and the Secretary of State and we will update you on the outcome. However, if this also concerns you as much as it does us, please write to your MP and/or councillors expressing your concerns about a failure of a proper democratic process via www.writetothem.com (it takes a couple of minutes max.).
Thank you as ever for your support. We will keep fighting this!
