Call to Action: Dysart Council; Pass Bylaws to Enforce Protection of Areas Zoned as Protected

Matty SmithHaliburton, Canada

Currently the township of Dysart et al does not have the appropriate bylaws in place to enforce many rules and regulations over areas that have been zoned as protected due to environmentally significance. Without these bylaws landowners are free to destroy these areas that benefit us all by providing us with clean water, and sustainable resources, even though what they are doing is technically illegal.

Help us give bylaw enforcement the tools they need to protect our natural heritage! Email Dysart using the template below to call council to take action!

Proposed Message (or create your own):

Nature, wildlife, and all related ecosystem services in Dysart et al are put in jeopardy because Dysart et al does not have the proper and standard tools to enforce their zoning protection. The lack of control can compromise the future of key habitats and resources. This in turn can result in declines in hunting heritage, fishing, water quality, flood control, forest health, wildlife populations, and many other functions that support our collective well-being.  Also, without these bylaws in place, we are not given the opportunity to manage our natural heritage and find adaptive solutions. This is unacceptable.

The Official Plans call for these mechanisms. We demand that these tools be put in place immediately and that Dysart et al put a site alteration bylaw in place now, and also that the municipality conduct a full review to identify other major gaps in zoning protections.
