We learned today that there are plans for 908Group to demolish The Swamp Restaurant and construct a mixed-use development in its place. This comes as a shock to a multitude of current students, alumni and the Gainesville community.

The Swamp front lawn has become a cornerstone of the University of Florida culture. Gamedays, fundraisers, reunions, the list goes on - countless gatherings have happened in this incredible space.

While no one is naive to the fact that change is inevitable, ridding midtown of Swamp for a mixed-use development like the one planned is a grave mistake.

This petition will serve as evidence that the Gainesville and UF communities stand firm in rejecting such a plan to replace an incredibly important piece of Gainesville's character.

This petition will be shared with the Gainesville City Commission, Mayor, The Swamp Restaurant, 908 Group, and University of Florida Leadership.
