Thankyou to everyone who has signed and shared this petition. It’s truly humbling to have reached nearly 1500 signatures. 

Since the Sunday Telegraph broke the story, it has been picked up by the other nationals and calls are coming in from other news outlets daily.

Age UK will undoubtedly claim that by selling Woodcot they will be contributing to their wider charitable aim. All very laudable.  Now theres’s no question  that Charities like Age Uk do good works- but what about Salcombe? Doesn’t  Salcombe matter ?

Do we have to accept that the needs of a national charity that makes millions in profit each year trumps the needs of Salcombe ?

Do the opinions of 1500 people not matter? Is it acceptable for Age UK to carry on regardless… or should they listen to what people are telling them? 

Rural towns are having their hearts and souls  ripped out of them in a variety of ways… communities are changing and people feel powerless to act.

 Well let’s not just roll over and accept Age UK’s nonsense about Woodcot being a private matter. It’s not. Everyone knows that Miss Jennings and her grandfather Mr Mcilwraith bequeathed two of Salcombe’s finest properties. That matters. Salcombe owes that family. Age UK cannot just quietly sell out  as if it were if no matter to the town.

As for the lie that Woodcot is unviable. Please. How hard can it be to make a success of a multi -million pound gift of a house in Salcombe? 

There no mortgage, no loans- maintenance of course but it’s not unviable. 

A simplistic back of envelope calculation of 14 flats @ £800 a month rent = £11,200 a month. 

Let’s not keep swallowing the line that everything is too expensive… it’s rarely true…. It’s just an excuse to justify selling a valuable asset that they have been running down for years. 

What is true is that by selling Woodcot, Age UK can easily cash in on literally millions of pounds that they never shelled out for in the first place. They are capitalising on someone else’s money.

The CEO and the executives can gild their careers by boosting Age UK’s profits.
