Save Windermere welcomes the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee

Today I was joined by the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee.

It is a cross-party select committee of MPs in the UK House of Commons. Its role is to scrutinise the spending, administration and policy of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and related public bodies, including the Environment Agency and Natural England.

I had the opportunity to outline to the Committee the problem that needs to be solved in Windermere, the primary driver of its decline, what the work of Save Windermere has uncovered, and the change we have subsequently brought about.

Finally, I sat down alongside United Utilities and the Environment Agency and, together, we told the Committee that the only way to protect Windermere for future generations is to end sewage pollution in our lake.

It was a great opportunity for the campaign, and there will be more to come from this very soon.

I would also like to extend a massive thank you to Ryan Blackburn at The Old Stamp House for hosting today's lunch and for his ongoing support of Save Windermere, and to Drew Blacow for the wonderful photos he took today.

All the best,

Matt
