Tomorrow Wednesday, February 11 at 9:30 a.m., the Toronto Preservation Board will consider a report recommending that Weston Lions Arena be added to the City’s Heritage Register. While this designation is largely symbolic, it is a critical step in formally recognizing the arena’s historic significance - and in strengthening the case to save it.

The meeting will include public on-camera deputations, and we need strong community participation.

If you are able, please consider taking one or more of the following actions:

1.  Sign up to deliver an in-person deputation 
2.  Submit a letter of support for adding Weston Lions Arena to the Heritage Register

The Preservation Board’s recommendation goes directly to City Council for ratification, making this a pivotal moment in the fight to save this cherished community rink.

Our message must be clear

Weston Lions Arena should be added to the Heritage Register as a hockey arena meaning not only is the building significant but also the ice surface. The building’s heritage value is inseparable from its decades-long role as a home for skating, hockey, and community life.

Additional some talking points….

a) Weston Lions Arena Ice-rink facility is the oldest, in-use ice facility for house-league minor hockey, seniors’ leagues and community programming in Toronto.

b) There are three seniors’ hockey associations which have used the ice-rink facility consistently for 47, 49 and 50 years, and Weston Minor Hockey League along with York Toros Minor Hockey Association have used the ice-rink for over 50 years.

c) On January 28, 2026 the Weston Historical Society wrote a statement that confirmed their view that the usage of Weston Lions Arena as an ice-rink facility should be classified as historical / heritage

d) In 1949, a group of local children who loved hockey raised the funds needed to build this arena and ignite the proud tradition of Weston Hockey. Let’s honour their legacy.
