LESS THAN TWO WEEKS UNTIL SAVE THE FUTURE OF THE FARM DAY!!
From June through October of this year, over 3000 less customers have visited our farm than in the same period as last year when our farm cidery was still open. Van Houten Farms cannot survive this loss of customer traffic. We, along with every other farm stand in the state of New York, need to evolve and diversify in order to remain sustainable and viable. Agritourism, including farm wineries, breweries, and cideries, has provided that diversification for hundreds, if not thousands, of farms throughout New York State, and there is not one farm stand left in Rockland County that does not rely on agritourism for some, if not most, of its income. Rockland Cider Works is the vital part of Van Houten Farms that will keep it relevant and profitable for the next generation.
The public hearing for the zoning text amendment that will pave the way for us to reopen Rockland Cider Works and help preserve the future of Van Houten Farms is fast approaching. Please consider attending the Orangetown Town Board Meeting on Tuesday, November 28th, at 7 pm to show your support for Rockland Cider Works and Van Houten Farms. If you can’t make it in person, we would greatly appreciate your positive words of support through an email to the Town of Orangetown town board members.
