In February 2024 the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) promised “further consultation” about their decision to abruptly close the Tyagarah Clothing-Optional Beach.
Between then and now there has only been one two-hour “stakeholder workshop” and no further engagement.
This is an inadequate amount of “consultation” to decide the future of such a special place.
The new NPWS deadline for closure is imminent. It’s 30 June, 2024.
We don’t want to be deprived of a safe and legal place to exercise a basic freedom in a just few days’ time!
We now need to appeal directly to the Minister responsible to have a meaningful consultation process that includes the merits of retaining the existing arrangement.
Please act NOW to help save our beloved beach!
What You Can Do To Save Tyagarah
Appeal to Minister Penny Sharpe by email to reverse the decision by NPWS to close the beach on 30/6. The email address is: office@sharpe.minister.nsw.gov.au
You can cut and paste our suggested text, which backs up our message to the Minister. Please add your own personal touches too!
Our suggested text is:
Dear Minister,
I want a safe and legal clothing-optional beach in the Byron Shire and I believe Tyagarah is the best place for this.
I support the case for Tyagarah put forward by Northern Rivers Naturists Inc.
I highly value Tyagarah and agree that it is safe, healthy, and accessible.
I ask you to reverse the decision by NPWS to close this beach by 30/6/24.
Sincerely,
NAME
Call the Minister’s office to protest the closure of the beach. This can be scary but it’s very effective. You only have to say a couple of lines, like: “I’m calling about the NPWS decision to close Tyagarah nudist beach on June 30. I highly value this beach and ask the Minister to reverse this decision”. The number is: 0272256020.
Ask your friends who love the beach to email and call too. We only have until 30/6!!
