Campaign Update: 802 Signatures Reached & A Major Financial Risk Identified

Dear Supporters,
We have officially hit 802 verified signatures on our petition to Save Timor Barracks! Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared so far. We are closing in on our 1,000-signature milestone, but our fight is intensifying as we uncover the true scale of this flawed divestment program.
Over the last 48 hours, we have taken our message directly to key federal decision-makers, uncovering a monumental financial and procedural risk that uniquely threatens the NSW defence estate.
Crucial Political Meetings
On Tuesday, 3 November 2026, I held two critical meetings to raise the alarm over the closure of Timor Barracks.
- A meeting with Dr Andrew Charlton MP, Member for the Federal Seat of Parramatta.
- An on-site meeting outside Timor Barracks with Alex Hawke MP, Member for the Federal Seat of Mitchell, and Senator Jess Collins, Senator for NSW and Chair of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade References Committee.
The NSW Land Claim Mess: A Multi-Million Dollar "Stuff Up"
During these meetings, I brought to light a significant issue unique to our state. Under the NSW Aboriginal Land Rights Act, all 11 NSW Defence sites slated for divestment—including Timor Barracks—are highly likely to be subject to Land Claims the exact day Defence personnel vacate the premises.
Unlike the 56 other Defence sites across the rest of Australia, the NSW legislation means these properties will instantly fall into limbo, joining the 38,000 to 40,000 current unresolved land claims in NSW.
If the Divestment Program is allowed to proceed, it will result in a financial and operational disaster:
Zero Benefit: Properties will be vacated with no immediate benefit to the Government, Defence, or the Australian public.
Astronomical Costs: Taxpayers will face a huge burden to maintain empty, unfortified properties indefinitely while paying to transition units or source new commercial land.
Loss of Capability: Vital units like the 8th Brigade Headquarters, 8 Operational Support Unit, and our youth cadets will be displaced for a process that will stall in bureaucratic gridlock for years.
While arguments surrounding the historical and operational value of sites like Victoria Barracks and Lancer Barracks are incredibly important, they are completely eclipsed by the sheer scale of the financial disaster this policy creates in NSW.
Action Needed:
Defence Presentation TOMORROW NIGHT
We have a critical opportunity to confront Defence directly and demand answers.
When: Tomorrow night, Thursday 5 November 2026, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
Where: Parramatta Town Hall.
What: A presentation by Defence regarding the actual divestment of Timor Barracks.
Key figures will be in attendance, including Dr Andrew Charlton MP and Peter Khalil MP (Assistant Minister for Defence). Rest assured, we will be putting this major development directly to them on the floor.
If you are local, please turn up, show your support, and help us make our voices heard.
Let's keep pushing to 1,000 signatures!
