CE Steve Williamson in partnership with the Executive Committee and the Board, have further reduced the maternity services at Theodore Hospital.
This includes:
Community based antenatal and postnatal care
No in patient antenatal or postnatal care. (No transferring back after giving birth elsewhere)
No midwifery on call, so imminent and emergencies will be dealt with by the Registered and Enrolled Nurse on duty.
The reconfiguration of the birth suite to enhance the emergency room department (A&E/outpatients is at the opposite end of the hospital, hence there is no need to touch the Operating Theatre and Birth Suite, as per original plans).
Theodore Hospital boast having 6 local midwives, 4 of whom are employed by CQHHS. It seems ironic to the Friends of Theodore Maternity Group, that CE Steven Williamson would disregard the specialist services that our midwives can offer and bypass them to utilise a community based model employing midwives in Biloela to give care via telehealth. It is not acceptable to us that there will be no inpatient antenatal or postnatal cares that can and always have been safely delivered here in Theodore. It is not acceptable to us, that our local midwives will no longer be allowed to be on maternity call, and any emergency or imminent birth that comes through the hospital will have to be dealt with by the Registered Nurse on duty. By making Theodore a Level 1 facility, has significantly put mothers and babies at risk. At the town meeting CE Steve Williamson guaranteed that this would not happen. There is no transparency, and no accountability.
