Hi everyone,
I want to thank each and every one of you once again for helping to project this petition to national status. Having the support of nearly 15,000 people means the world to me and everyone else that was involved in A Fool's Drag Race last year.
As you may have seen in the news recently, WT Spectrum's lawsuit against Walter Wendler was denied an injunction in the Supreme Court to prevent him from cancelling this year's drag show, Don't Be A Drag. Unfortunately, this means that this year's drag show, which was to be held on campus as well, has a high chance of being cancelled again by the WT president. This will mean we might have to change venues again, but this year, we have help from the wonderful drag community in Amarillo, Texas, who are currently helping us set up a backup plan. We do plan on continuing with this year's drag show, whether it is barred from campus or not. We will remain strong despite the extreme pushback from the university and legislators.
Although we did not claim victory against Wendler this time, we will weather any hit we take. This petition will be closing for good, but I highly encourage all of you to e-mail and campaign to your local, state, and national legislature and call for the protection of drag and LGBT+ expression. We cannot give up this fight, no matter what.
If you want updates on the current status of Don't Be A Drag, follow @wtamuspectrum on Instagram and WT Spectrum on Facebook. We will be posting information as it comes in. The drag show is once again donating all proceeds towards The Trevor Project, a program that supports LGBT+ youth.
Drag is art. Drag is love. Drag is freedom. Never forget.
