📢 UPDATE: OUR CO-OP HAS RESPONDED
Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared the petition regarding the future of the Weston Road and Holmcroft Road Co-op stores.
I have now received a response directly from Our Co-op.
The important news is that NO decision has currently been made to close or sell either store.
Our Co-op has confirmed that both stores are facing challenges affecting their long-term financial sustainability and that they are currently being marketed to establish whether there is interest from potential buyers.
However, importantly, they have said that this is only one part of a wider review.
They are also considering:
✅ Ways of improving store performance
✅ Different operating approaches
✅ Potential investment
✅ Other strategic alternatives
✅ Community ownership where there is active member interest
Both Weston Road and Holmcroft Road remain OPEN and trading as normal while this review takes place.
This makes it even more important that we continue demonstrating that these stores matter to their communities.
The petition isn't about forcing a company to operate an unsustainable business. It is about showing that residents value these stores and want every reasonable alternative considered before they are lost.
I will now be asking Our Co-op how residents can formally demonstrate community/member interest and whether they would be willing to meet with local people to discuss the future of both stores.
