SAVE THE WATER CONSERVATION GARDEN

SAVE THE WATER CONSERVATION GARDEN
The Issue
SAVE THE WATER CONSERVATION GARDEN
The San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA)will vote on June 26 on a staff recommendation to end its sponsorship and funding for the Water Conservation Garden. The Garden’s accessibility to the public is at risk if they pull out. Please sign this petition below to let SDCWA know how important the Garden is to our County, and urge SDCWA to maintain its membership in the Water Conservation Authority and funding for the Garden.
The Garden has been an important resource for water sustainability for 25 years, and as we enter another drought, it’s a critical educational resource for the public, to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
The Garden is operated by a consortium of 6 public entities, who’s contract is up for renewal. The City of San Diego has already pulled out due to its budget crisis, and with 40% of the vote at SDCWA, the City could possibly pull SDCWA out with them as well. This would mean the Garden would lose 1/3 of its current sponsorship and funding, leaving the Garden’s future in jeopardy.
TAKE ACTION
1) Please sign the petition, and share it with everyone you know.
2) Please contact your city’s representative at SDCWA, which you can find here.
3). The draft MOU can be found on page 47 here.

To the SDCWA Board,
We, the undersigned, request SDCWA add a third voting option on its agenda for June 26, to sign the draft Memorandum of Understanding* to maintain its membership in the Water Conservation Authority, and provide funding for The Water Conservation Garden.
SDCWA‘S continued support is critical to ensure that the Garden can remain an oasis of sustainability education for San Diego County. This decision is vital not only for the future of the Water Conservation Garden, but also for maintaining our community’s dedication to sustainable practices, to help ensure water resources for generations to come.
Thank you.
