The story was tragic, no malice

Pictures of Altai the Amur tiger today, the first since the death of a visitor at Yorkshire Wildlife Park last Saturday.

William Chapman, 24, climbed two fences to get into the enclosure at the park near Doncaster and died of multiple traumatic injuries. The inquest, which opened on Thursday, heard he had a diagnosis of schizophrenia and a history of psychosis, and that his family had raised concerns about his contact with mental health services beforehand. The NHS trust involved has launched an investigation and the hearing was adjourned until March 2027.

The park reopened on Friday morning, including Land of the Tiger, after discussions with the relevant authorities. Altai is safe and well and will not be put down.
