Disney has destroyed everything near and dear to my childhood love (sans Andor). After the flaming trainwreck that was 7,8 and 9, the fact that they want to give the script writing to Simon Kinberg and Jon Watts is appalling.

But the bigger issue is Disney misunderstanding the Star Wars IP at a fundamental level. What made Star Wars great was that it did what it wanted. Did not pander to fans, did not pander to stockholders, did not pander to anyone. Just a story being told, lots of great characters. 4,5,6 had great dialogue.

After 7,8 and 9, I cannot watch Disney make movies just to sell more lightsabers, or build yet another cantina in another Disneyland.

Give us the real Star Wars, not another half baked trilogy that just lives off fan service, or a rumoured Darth Vader trilogy. Why do we need MORE Darth Vader?? There's no payoff, no story progression.

Why can't we have the new trilogy a thousand years after everything? New heroes, new villains. They retconned the EU but there were so many great ideas there that would have translated amazingly into the big screen.

Till they fix that, every Disney exec knows deep down: Dune is the new Star Wars today.
