Our Treedom Fighters have invited Revd Giles Goddard, the vicar of St John's Church in Waterloo, to bless the magnificent boulevard of trees that line the proposed Garden Bridge site on the Queen's Walk, South Bank.
This leafy promenade is an extension of the London planes planted outside the Royal Festival Hall (RFH) as a memorial to those who sacrificed their lives in World War II. These trees (from the London Eye to the RFH) were planted in the 1960's.
A memorial statue was commissioned for the site by the Greater London Council; however it was put into storage when the GLC was disbanded in 1986. Unfortunately, its whereabouts is unknown but sculptor Jane Ackroyd, has been invited along to witness the tree ceremony.
These trees are still under threat of destruction by the Garden Bridge Trust so please come along and support us by celebrating this wonderful stretch of open green space. People of all faiths and none, are welcome.
Please spread the word and bring family and friends; spread out a rug and have a picnic - something that wouldn't be allowed upon the Garden Bridge!
