Wow! Almost 1600 supporters and nearly 1000 comments thus far! Showing opposition this early to the Snow River Dam goes a long way towards showing Chugach Electric that their massive dam project is not wanted! It also shows them that we are smart enough to know that Alaska doesn't even need the additional power! Please continue the conversations and keep an eye on our website at www.nokenaidam.org We also have a Facebook page that can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/peninsulariversconservancy/ Despite overwhelming evidence that Alaska does not have a need for a new power source and that Alaska will most likely continue to see a decline in demand for electricity, the burden is on the public to fight for our public lands and pristine wilderness. Why do we have to take on this burden? Why do we have to fight Chugach Electric for 17,000 acres of pristine Alaskan wilderness? Chugach Electric doesn't even have to prove that there is a need for additional power. Chugach claims that a dam would provide an offset for a Natural Gas-fired plant to reduce dependency on fossil fuels. We agree that there must be a reduction in fossil fuel use; however, when these plants were built, did Chugach and the Railbelt Utilities consider that they might need a reliable source for natural gas into the future? These tough questions must be asked. We're not going to let Chugach get away with downplaying their commitment to advancing detrimental projects like the Snow River Dam. There are much better alternatives, starting with forcing the utilities to upgrade transmission lines and working together to save ratepayers tens of millions of dollars without having to destroy Alaska in the process. Two meetings have been set up by Chugach Electric. We will be there to ask them the tough questions. Will you be there? April 17th - Lakefront Hotel, Anchorage 7pm April 18th - Moose Pass - Community Hall 7pm We'll see you there!
