Redwood Trees Voted to be Removed

We are very sad to report that the Arlington Conservation Commission voted tonight to allow the Arlington Recreation Department to remove the two Arlington dawn redwood trees as part of the Magnolia Park renovation project. The vote was 4-2 (yes vote meant approval of the Arlington plan, including the removal of the two trees). [vote record] Injustice was done tonight in the name of "conservation". What should have been a value judgment was turned into a mathematical exercise. Each tree to be removed was weighed against the new trees and plantings by caliper measurement. In essence every tree is replaceable in Arlington. Of course, we know they are not. There will be heartbroken children tomorrow morning. There is a mandatory 10-day waiting period.
