Arlington Redwood Saved! (for now)

Hello all. The Conservation Commission last night (June 16, 2016) voted to go forward with the Magnolia playground renovation project EXCEPT for the part of the garden expansion portion that would have required the largest of the redwoods to be removed or in anyway harmed. Meaning the tree is saved! (for now) About twenty community members spoke out against removing the tree at the hearing. Even one gardener who appeared to have been there to speak for removing the tree expressed sympathy for those who lived near the park and cherished the tree. The commissioners were mostly sympathetic to our cause. We also presented printed copies of this petition with 424 signatures (more have signed since). They were clearly impressed with the number of petitioners, so you all deserve a huge credit for our success so far. Thank you so much!!! The Park and Recreation department, the applicant, may seek another Notice of Intent as to that garden expansion portion, and it is likely that they will do so. We are hopeful that they will not seek to remove that tree, but we will keep an eye out and react accordingly. Should they pursue a new application the hearing will likely be held at the next regular meeting on July 14th.
