Thank you for showing your support for the Prince of Wales theatre by signing our recent petition against its closure.  The response to the petition has been quite overwhelming and the groundswell of support is much appreciated by all those affected by the threatened closure.  

The petition was presented and formally submitted to a full Council Meeting in January where some of your comments were also highlighted.  You may by now be aware that, despite this, on the 12th of February 2025 the council voted through its budget which involves no longer providing any funding to operate the theatre.  

This is of course very disappointing, but, as they say, The Show Must Go On!  And we are very hopeful that it will thanks to the hard work of a small group of users of the theatre and local business owners.

Since the announcement late last November, they have been working on a business proposal to take over operation of the theatre as a Charitable Interest Organisation, and this has led to more meaningful discussions with the council on what this could mean in the future.  

It is still early days, but talks so far have been positive and we remain hopeful this will lead to the eventual re-opening of the theatre once the current demolition work around it has been completed in around 12-18 months.
