This is the moment to email your elected officials and urge them to save the Piney Branch Community Pool!

The decision-makers include the Superintendent, County Executive, Board of Education, and County Council. The decision whether to include a pool in the Piney Branch Elementary School renovation or rebuild will be made over the next few weeks, as the County considers the schools facility budget. If you are a Montgomery County resident, please write NOW and briefly make any of these points:

1) What the pool has meant to you (and your family).

2) The pool was built to address a racial equity issue, providing life-saving water safety skills to people in a dense corridor of affordable housing, and still serves those residents.

3) There is still an alarming difference in the statistics for drowning of Black and brown children, versus white children, and this pool still serves to address that issue, with free swimming for children at the school, children in free summer camps for underserved children, and water access for people of all ages in the immediate neighborhood.

4) The new Silver Spring Aquatic Center does not meet the same needs, because it would not be available to Piney Branch Elementary Students during the day, does not allow camp groups in the summer, and is less accessible to seniors, disabled people, and young families because of the walking distance from parking there.
