News on how our petition continues to grow

Who has been signing:

We have been working through the signatures name by name. Academics have now signed from more than 340 higher education institutions across 25 countries. That is not a Dundee campaign with a few friends abroad. It is a judgement by the international philosophical community about what would be lost.

Dominic Smith on Benjamin, technology and teaching:

Dominic has recorded a conversation with Esther Leslie, Professor of Political Aesthetics at Birkbeck, about his new book Bridging Benjamin: A Philosophy of Technology, Place, and Education, published by University of Minnesota Press. It begins with the Tay Bridge disaster of 1879 - the subject of one of Walter Benjamin's lost radio broadcasts - and ends on what teaching is for in an age of generative AI. Along the way Dominic describes the schools programme he and colleagues have run every year since 2020, which has now reached around 2,000 pupils across Scotland. This is a philosophy programme doing exactly what a university should ask of it: original research at the highest level, rooted in the city it belongs to, taken out into local classrooms. Eva Milne in The Herald:

Eva Milne, a recent Dundee philosophy graduate, has written in The Herald on philosophy and AI. Eva is this year's winner of the Wimberley Award, the University's most prestigious student honour, presented by the Principal to the student judged to have made the most distinguished contribution to university life.
