Save the Owl Fine Foods by making it a commercially-zoned property again!

The Issue

For far too many years, the memorable Owl Fine Foods grocery store has remained shuttered and vacant. Located at 1121 Chester Street, the historic property has been unappealing to potential buyers most pointedly because the commercial zoning for the building has lapsed. Currently, the property is zoned as a Single Family (SF-2) property. In order for any business to purchase this iconic historic building, restore it, and return it back to its original commercial use, the community must agree to make a zoning variance for business at this particular building!

The Garden District neighborhood and the Alexandria metropolitan area as a whole will benefit from returning the Owl Fine Foods to its original use as a Business Zoned building (B-1, B-2, B-3). Removing this particular roadblock frees the way to save the structure and to return it to its original use, however this decision relies on community support and endorsement. We cannot get this building re-zoned as a business again without your support! Together we can take this downtrodden community landmark, save it from destruction, and bring it back to its former glory.

Without your help to change the zoning, this valuable historic property will unfortunately be demolished leaving another vacant lot and existing only in community memory.

Please join with us by signing this petition which we will present as proof of community support to our Alexandria City Council-members, the Alexandria Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Board of Adjustments and Appeals.
