Advocacy Alert from Preservation Utah The Cottonwood Paper Mill, located at 6851 S. Big Cottonwood Canyon Road, is facing a proposed demolition. This historic industrial site—recently included on Preservation Utah’s 2025 Most Endangered Buildings and Places List—is now the subject of a public hearing before the Cottonwood Heights Planning Commission. What’s Happening A request has been submitted for a Conditional Use Permit that would allow demolition of the historic Cottonwood Paper Mill. Because the property is recognized as historic, demolition requires public review and approval. Why This Matters The Cottonwood Paper Mill is one of the last remaining physical reminders of early industrial development along Big Cottonwood Canyon. Its loss would permanently erase an important chapter of local and regional history. Inclusion on our Most Endangered List reflects serious concern—but public input can still influence the outcome. Public Hearing Details Date: Wednesday, January 21, 2026 Location: Cottonwood Heights City Hall (2277 E. Bengal Blvd.) Work Session: 5:00 p.m. (no public comment) Business Session / Public Hearing: 6:00 p.m. How You Can Take Action Attend the meeting - Verbal public comment will be accepted during the 6:00 p.m. Business Session. Comments are limited to three minutes per speaker.
