Vote YES on BOND - But Don’t Forget The Old Mill! Write Mayor Weicher

    I met with a member of the planning committee for the new Town Center,  and I realized the new Town Center which is called ‘The Heights’ would help Cottonwood Heights avoid having super high-rise apartment buildings next to Fort Union, as happened in Sugarhouse.
     The committee member explained that the town center project was in the works BEFORE the owners of the Old Mill presented their plan to tear down the Old Mill &  build apartments in the natural area of our Big Cottonwood Creek Canyon.
      The committee members feell that making the Old Mill into a Community Center for the Arts is equally important!
      The bond measure for The Heights Will actually  be paid back in a few years, so it would be possible to create a 2nd bond measure for creating a park at The Old Mill, and eventually renovating it. 
     My greatest concern is how the city can  move forward with procuring The Old Mill.
So I am torn now between supporting the bond measure to avoid creating another Sugar House and not supporting it, so that the city willl turn their focus to procuring The Old Mill and make it their priority.   If they can juggle both projects, that would be great! But I don’t want to lose The Old Mill!
      It will be important for each of us to have this conversation with City Leadership!
     One way to do this is to write the mayor, and let him know that Saving The Old Mill needs to be our city’s top priority, and that you do NOT want The Heights Town Center in any way to take away from importance of  Saving The Old Mill!                                  Write:  CityRecorder@CH.Utah.Gov
