To donate, and to find out more details, please go to: https://givealittle.co.nz/org/savelongbayokuracoastline As you know, just when we thought Okura Estuary and the Long Bay Okura Marine Reserve were saved from destruction, Okura Land Holdings Ltd (Todd Property Group), has struck again by appealing the Auckland Unitary Plan decision which only allows low density rural development of 4 ha block on the southern side of the Okura Estuary. In August, Auckland Council had consolidated its earlier determinations, supported by the Local Board and following two Environment Court decisions that the Okura Estuary should remain unsullied by further urban development. The developers however, instead, want to jam 750-1000 houses into this area, giving the finger to Council, our community, wilderness and wildlife. The visual impact, sediment run-off and other pollution of development at this scale would create havoc with the ecological and other values of Okura Estuary, and hence the Long Bay Okura Marine Reserve. Okura Land Holdings are taking this to the Environment Court, and to block it we need to be in Court too, standing up for the Okura Estuary and the Long Bay Okura Marine Reserve. A Court process with its lawyers and experts is expensive, as we know from our previous successful engagements there – almost certainly we will need to spend up to $300,000; this is achievable, but we urgently need your help again.
