Help Save 18,000 Trees | Invitation to February 28

Greetings! This is our last chance for now to help save 18,000 trees. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors will hold an important meeting on Tuesday, February 28 and vote. Here is how you can help: 1. Attend the Meeting Board of Supervisors Meeting SF City Hall, Room 250 Tuesday, February 28, 2017 3 pm You will have an opportunity to make a public comment of 1 – 3 minutes. The key message is to ask the City to please vote YES on the EIR Appeal (Environmental Impact Report) and send it back to Planning to address the inadequacies and protect the people from toxic pesticides, deforestation, and climate change. Please bring a beverage and even some chocolate with you as there might be a bit of a wait. 2. Attend the Rally Rally to Save the Trees SF Civic Center Plaza Across from City Hall on Polk Street February 28, 2017 1 pm Organized by the San Francisco Forest Alliance, this rally will ask the City of San Francisco to save healthy trees and halt the use of toxic pesticides. 3. Email your Supervisors if you live in San Francisco You can make a big difference by calling or emailing your District Supervisor today if you live in San Francisco. The key message is to ask your Supervisor to please vote YES on the EIR Appeal for the Natural Resource Areas Plan to fix the many inadequacies, save healthy trees, replant a minimum of 1:1 trees in all parks, and protect public safety from toxic pesticides and climate change. It has made a significant difference to date. SF Rec and Park is now acknowledging that older trees do absorb more carbon than younger trees. This is a huge victory. The Environmental Impact Report (EIR) still suffers from many inadequacies including: : Inadequate Mitigation for Toxic Herbicides : Deficient Tree Replacement Rate : Inadequate Mitigation for Air Pollution : Incorrect Greenhouse Gas Analysis I hired one of the top sustainability and greenhouse gas verification firms to re-assess the GHG emissions of this plan. The firm used the most rigorous methodology possible -- the California Air Resources Board U.S. Forest Project Offset Protocol for AB 32, the landmark California Global Warming Solutions Act. The new calculations found that SF Rec and Park’s plan to deforest 18,448 trees without adequate replacement would release significant Carbon Emissions and cause climate change. Based on that, I know that we are on the right side of history in our advocacy. It is alarming that the SF Planning Department is trying to rely upon a "disagreement among experts" about climate change to push this unpopular, 20-year-old plan through. Our environment is about to be decimated at the federal level. Why would we willingly destroy our own? Thank you for caring.
