2023…SAVE MODOC ROAD TREES!!!
We put together this image gallery THE GOOD...THE BAD...THE FUGLY that highlights what would be lost if they are allowed to proceed…also, the unavoidable destruction of trees and vegetation in the triangular strip of historic land between Modoc Road and Las Palmas Drive.

So, here we are 6 1/2 months into a battle to “Preserve the Preserve” that should have never happened. We are still working on saving up to 48 trees, including 29 iconic Canary Island Date palm heritage trees that survived the Painted Cave Fire.
The trampling on the Conservation Easement Agreement for the Modoc Preserve by the County of Santa Barbara Public Works and Board of Supervisors MUST be stopped!!!
We have had to file a lawsuit against Santa Barbara County Public Works and the SB County Board of Supervisors for violating California state laws governing environmental review under the provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). CAMP challenges the county’s failure to conduct complete and accurate environmental review, prepare an Environmental Impact Report, as well as other procedural and substantive violations of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) in approving the Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND).
We must hold the County accountable to to build their 14′ wide Multi-Use Path (MUP) up on Modoc Road out of the Modoc Preserve on existing asphalt infrastructure as they proposed in the $5.35MM ATP grant they wrote back in May, 2018. We are now L@@King at a $10MM unnecessary project, that if built as currently proposed, will pave a path of destruction through a valuable greenbelt at the edge of urban encroachment.
Our goal is to keep this ecologically valuable open space from encroaching urban development. Please contribute to the Modoc Preserve Legal Fund to continue to help save these 100+ year old iconic, and historic, heritage trees before it's too late. Everything helps!
