We believe that preserving the Modoc Preserve as a nature preserve, is crucial to stopping development in other protected open spaces.
Our deep, and very real concern, is that if SB County prevails in being able to penetrate and violate the spirit of the Modoc Preserve Deed of Conservation Easement signed in 1999, after a hard fought battle...which we believed protected it from development "forever" and "in perpetuity"... what, or who, is going to be able to stop the county, or for that matter...some other governmental or private entity from being able to use similar tactics and chip away at other "protected" open spaces in Santa Barbara County...under SB Land Trust, or other management?
For that matter, protected open spaces anywhere in the country.
We've had a false sense of security for the last 23 years...and, are now having to fight to preserve the preserve...again...
This is a protected nature preserve...we have to fight to keep these beautiful trees, providing important habitat and shade canopy for a bio-diverse ecosystem, from being paved over with asphalt and concrete in the middle of an extreme drought!
We will have a front seat to climate change right here on Modoc Road!!! Keep open spaces open spaces...preserve the Preserve!!!
Thanks again...keep spreading the word...we are 855 petition supporters strong...closing in on 1000! We are starting to hit critical mass!
We need to hold our elected officials accountable for upholding open space agreements!
Our voices matter...trees matter...open spaces matter...we will not be ignored!
